Sustainability is a top concern these days for companies and consumers alike.

However, the vape industry isn’t necessarily known for its eco-friendliness. Unfortunately, it’s all too common to see single-use vape devices littering the streets. With refillable, open-system vapes being highly regulated in some countries, single-use vapes are only growing in popularity, so the problem is only going to get worse over time.

First, Try to Reduce Waste

Reducing waste is the best way to reduce your overall environmental impact. For example, if you’re not sure whether you will like a new flavour of vape juice, don’t purchase five bottles of it and throw them away if you don’t like the taste. Instead, try giving them away instead. If you have a device that you don’t use anymore, consider giving it to a friend who will use it instead of tossing it in the bin. With one-use vapes, make sure to finish each one before buying another, and separate them from your regular trash.

Once a product has reached the end of its useful lifespan, you may be able to recycle it. Here’s what you need to know about recycling vape batteries, coils, and e-liquid bottles.

Disposable vape devices should be treated as electronic waste because of their built-in battery and draw sensor. Please do not throw them out with your regular trash. Instead, send them to a recycling centre.

How to Recycle Vape Batteries

Batteries of any type, including vape batteries, can be very harmful to the environment if they are disposed of improperly. Whether you’re using disposables or rechargeable vape devices, please treat them as electronic waste and dispose of them responsibly at a recycling centre. Do not throw them into the trash! Batteries contain toxic chemicals that can leach into the environment, and some batteries can even catch fire or explode.

Luckily, many of today’s vape retailers will accept used vape batteries for recycling. Your local vape shop may take dead batteries for recycling, or your regional electronics recycling hub is another option.

How to Recycle Vape Coils

Vape coils, like batteries, contain metals that can pollute the environment. Either reach out to your local vape shop about recycling coils or see if your recycling centre accepts minor metals.

How to Recycle Vape Juice Bottles

Most e-liquid bottles are either made from plastic or glass. As neither of these are biodegradable, it is essential to dispose of your e-liquid bottles properly. If you have recycling bin available, rinse out your empty bottles, and dry them before placing them in the recycling bin as recyclers do not accept wet waste.
